Launched in 2012, the 991 generation is built on an entirely new platform — only the third in 911 history. A wheelbase stretched by 10cm, wider tracks and mixed steel-aluminium construction: the 911 gained in stability and comfort without losing an ounce of its DNA. The Carrera S is fitted with the naturally aspirated 3.8-litre flat-six with direct injection producing 400bhp, paired on this example with the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox.
The 991.1 will go down in history as the last Carrera with a naturally aspirated engine before the switch to turbocharging in 2015. With the Sport Chrono Package and sports exhaust fitted to this car, the six-cylinder sings all the way to the red line. Regarded as amongst the most reliable of the modern 911s — free from the engine fragilities of previous generations — the 991.1 Carrera S combines pure sports car performance with the versatility of a everyday GT. A future classic already identified.
