Launched in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Portofino succeeds the California T as the gateway to the world of Ferrari. Named after the village on the Ligurian Riviera, this convertible GT with a retractable hard top puts right everything held against its predecessor: a chassis 35% stiffer, reduced weight and a markedly sharper line penned by the Centro Stile.

Its twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8, uprated to 600bhp — 40 more than the California T — despatches 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds, with the top opening or closing in 14 seconds. A genuine four-season GT suited to everyday use, it combines 2+2 seating, a usable boot and Magneride suspension. It would give way to the Portofino M in 2020, then to the Roma Spider.
