Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in February 2006, the 599 GTB Fiorano succeeds the 575M Maranello and overturns tradition: it is the first Ferrari grand tourer built on an all-aluminium chassis. Beneath its long bonnet, the 6.0-litre V12 derived from the Enzo delivers 620 bhp at 7,600 rpm. Penned by Pininfarina, its silhouette with rear flying buttresses, initially conceived for stylistic reasons, would prove aerodynamically beneficial in the wind tunnel.
The first Ferrari fitted with SCM magnetorheological dampers, it marries the suppleness of a GT with unprecedented responsiveness, whilst the F1-SuperFast gearbox fires through gears in a hundred milliseconds. The HGTE package sharpens the whole package: firmer springs, lowered ride height, a reinforced rear anti-roll bar, shortened shift times and a more vocal exhaust. The 599 bows out in 2012, following the 599 GTO and SA Aperta, to make way for the F12berlinetta.
